PRISCILA LEAL
Educator. Researcher. Consultant.
I live on the beautiful island of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. I was born and raised in Brazil where I completed my undergraduate studies at the Universidade Federal do Pará. I graduated with a B.A. in Education and a Teaching Certificate in Portuguese Language and Literatures.
I received my M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction with Concentration on English as a Second Language from Arizona State University and my Ph.D. in Second Language Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
I currently teach pre-service teachers of the College of Education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
I am the founder and CEO of Aʻo Language Education Consulting, LLC, a consulting specialized in professional development for schools, teacher education programs, and stakeholders that benefit English language learners.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Teaching. Learning. Sharing.
My research interests intersect the fields of Critical Applied Linguistics and Teacher Education, specifically the areas of second language teaching (i.e., ESL, EFL, ELL), teacher development of teachers of multilingual and multicultural learners, identity, and emotion, teaching for social justice, and narrative analysis.
I am particularly interested in how English language teachers and teachers of English language learners develop critical consciousness (i.e., become and act as teachers for social justice).
